Watch repair is an interesting field as there are many different brands and models of watches that can and need to be repaired. There are numerous ways you can learn about watch repair. You may take watch repair as a hobby, as a profession or just to earn some pocket money. While you repair watches, you may receive timepiece years old for repair. And the joy you experience on repairing an old watch has no bounds.

People with collector watches look for a person who can repair watches well as they cannot afford getting rid of the watch for it being irreparable. Most of the greatest watch repair people had generally started their profession as a hobby, only to end up as full time repair men. The best way to learn watch repair is by working under an expert. There are different people who repair watches and different people for clocks as the skills required for both of them are different.

To succeed in watch repair, you need to have good eyesight, good hand and eye coordination and of course great patience. Not everyone can do watch repair as this is not a simple job. It is a job that needs skill, dedication and lots of time to learn. Of course, you also need a good set of tools and supplies, which are not cheap, to continue in watch repair.

If there are no good watch repair experts in your vicinity, it proves to be better to join some watchmakers institute where there are not only courses for you to join, but you also receive their publications to learn abut the latest watches in the market, and how to repair them. Some watch makers institutes sponsor training programs while others hold local and regional meetings for you to attend to learn all there is to know about watch repair.

The basic tools that are required for watch repair are a good lamp, a workbench, cleaning solvents and magnification tools called loupes. For actual watch repair you need tweezers, screwdrivers, oil, a knife and different kinds of adhesives. Keep a stone handy for sharpening your screwdrivers, knife and tweezers.

The main tools required for watch repair are tweezers and screwdrivers. Choose a tweezers of style 2 or 3 for watch repair. It is better to use Swiss made tweezers as they are non magnetic and facilitate easy watch repair. And in the case of screwdrivers, the Swiss screwdriver of the color coded set having revolving tops is the best set. If this proves to be too expensive, you can opt for the French, Indian or Pakistan screwdrivers.

In addition to all this, you can also buy some Emory cloth to wipe the watch, hand pullers, nippers, tools to open and close the watch case and files. If you are really serious about your watch repair job, you can also invest in a timing machine, truing caliper, jewelling tool, polisher, grinder, lathe and an ultrasonic cleaning machine. There are many more additions that can be made to the list of watch repair tools as there are many specialized watch repair tools found in the market today.
